HWY 285 extends south from Old Las Vegas HWY past the Eldorado subdivision
to the west and the town of Lamy on the east. At about mile marker 15, State
HWY 41 splits toward the town of Galisteo and the Galisteo Basin. The
terrain is comprised of rolling hills and grasslands with mountain views in
most directions. Due to the historical and cultural aspects of the area,
attempts have been made to balance growth with preservation. Newer
subdivisions have set aside large tracts of green space and have retained
the ranching and equestrian feel of the land.
